The Business Energy Bill Relief Scheme will provide energy bill relief for non-domestic customers in Great Britain between 1st October 2022 and 31st March 2023.
Any discount will only be available to those non-domestic customers completing contracts after the 01st of December 2021 and is subject to wholesale energy costs at the time of contract completion. The government publishes a weekly wholesale energy price update which we add to our Business Energy Bill Relief Scheme Calculator as soon as they become available. *No further wholesale pricing data will be published by the Government for the Energy Bill Relief Scheme which ended on the 31st March 2023. It is widely expected that the government will soon publish a dataset to be used for the new Energy Bill Discount Scheme, perhaps as soon as the end of April.
Under the Energy Bill Relief Scheme there were different levels of support for fixed vs variable and deemed as well as other contract types. Our Business Energy Bill Relief Scheme Calculator provides all the calculations you need for fixed contracts and also includes all the calculations you need for replacement Government Energy Bill Discount Scheme.
For the Energy Bill Relief Scheme, fixed contracts will include a discount representing the difference between the wholesale price, at the time of completing your contract, and the government-supported price of 21.1p for Electricity and 7.5p for Gas. Any discount is subject to a retail rate floor price, currently equal to the wholesale supported price, to prevent any retail rate payable by non-domestic customers from falling below the supported wholesale price. Our Business Energy Relief Scheme Calculator automatically calculates your estimated savings based on all the currently available criteria provided by the government in relation to the scheme.
Variable and deemed contracts will be subject to the same price floor but also a maximum discount of 34.5p per kWh for electricity and 9.1p per kWh for gas. The government guidance document also states that the discount for these contract types will reflect the difference between the supported price and the relevant wholesale price.
The Black Sheep Utilities Business Energy Bill Relief Scheme Calculator doesn’t currently include the ability to check available customer support on variable or deemed rates as further government guidance regarding calculation methods is required.
Each week the dataset used to create our Business Energy Bill Relief Scheme Calculator, is updated. The government published the current dataset on the 04th of April 2023, but only includes wholesale data up to and including the 31st March 2023 which is when the scheme ended. Until the Government release a data set under the new EBRD Scheme the date that can be entered in the contract agreement date field is the 31st March 2023.
